An underlying principle of the SC Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is to eliminate all forms of malnutrition and food insecurity.  Malnutrition predisposes one to infection, potentially increasing the severity and mortality of an infection event. Infection control measures are not always explicitly addressed in many dietetics curricula suggesting the need to fill this important gap in education.  In this lecture, the basic principles of infection control will be addressed with a focus on control measures that dietitians can implement in practice.
