Brief Job Description: Develop and implement nutrition therapy plans for patients who are going to or have already undergone bariatric weight-loss surgery. Provide counseling services to help patients understand their changing nutritional needs, and monitor patients for signs of dietary deficiencies. You start your relationship with patients months before they are scheduled for surgery to prepare them for the eating and lifestyle changes they need to make to be successful after the procedure. One of the most important lessons you teach patients is to reduce their portion sizes from the amounts they used to eat before surgery, and reduce their carbohydrate intake.
