What is a Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians (RD) are food and nutrition experts who meet these criteria to earn the RD credential:

  • complete a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college and completed course work approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE)
  • complete a CADE-accredited supervised practice program – typically six to twelve months in length
  • pass a national examination
  • complete continuing professional education requirements to maintain registration
